Anti-Gun Bias in TV Movies

I was watching this (admitedly) bad movie on satellite the other day. It was one of those "the sun is going to blow up and destroy the world in seven days" kind of disaster movies. Crazed mobs were rioting in the streets and there was mass chaos. It was about this time that a serial killer escaped custody and went searching for the witness who had put him away for life. To make a LONG and (boring) terrible storyline short: He finds her and her family. He's about to kill her husband (played by Jason Priestly) so she takes her gun and shoots him several times. Bad guy dies and falls into the pond out behind the house. It is at this point that she realizes that she's just saved her family by killing the bad guy with her gun, and what does she do next? That's right ladies and gentlemen, she recoils from her gun like it's a live scorpian and hurls it into the pond. At this point, I'm thinking "WTF? This gun, with her guidance (it's a tool) just saved her family's lives, and she throws it into the pond?" With a growl of disgust I turned off the TV.

*sigh*

I guess it was too much to ask for even the bad "Mini-Series" type TV movies to not have some hokey "Anti-Gun" rhetoric thrown in.

Heard From a Friend

I know a guy who's divorced and luckily has custody of his kids. He's a shooter and a reloader and owns several guns, properly put up of course. Anyway, he related to me the other day a conversation he'd had with his ex-wife when she'd come over to visit the kids.

He'd always put up his reloading suplies when she'd come over before, but this time he was tired of putting them away and then bringing them back out when she left (he reloads on his kitchen counter currently). So this time he just left it all out in plain site.

It took her a while, but she finally saw a box of bullets sitting on the kitchen table. "These aren't real?" she asked.

"Yes!" he said.

"What do you use them for?" she asked.

To which he replied, "Target shooting."

"There's a gun in the house?" she asked, as if it were a marauding beast or a slithering cobra.

"Yeah, somewhere, put up." was his answer.

He told me at that point she went silent and didn't say anything else about it. You can probably tell from this brief exchange why the two of them aren't married anymore. And good riddance I say. It's good too that he has custody of the children and can teach his kids proper gun safety and use without being saddled with their mother's liberal bias. Sometimes good things do happen in this world!

I understand that a lot of young people have had a religious experience because of the story about Cassie Bernall, or was it Rachel Scott...or maybe it was Valeen Schnurr?

Some would say that a religious experience is a good thing, but is it still a good thing when it's based on a lie? An untruth poisons the whole stew. I want to make it clear that I don't believe there was every any intentional falsehood on the part of anyone involved, but turning someone into a martyr based on erroneous information is wrong.

Lacey, in the song "Cassie" you sing that she pulled the trigger, when in reality it was one of the two psychopaths who were shooting people. How do you reconcile this with religious sources condemning suicide? Saying yes in this case would be akin to killing yourself.

Repeat offender given probation for sex with deer

SUPERIOR, WIS. - A 20-year-old Superior man received probation after he was convicted of having sexual contact with a dead deer. The sentence also requires Bryan James Hathaway to be evaluated as a sex offender and treated at the Institute for Psychological and Sexual Health in Duluth.

Hathaway's probation will be served at the same time as a nine-month jail sentence he received in February for violating his extended supervision.

He was found guilty in April 2005 of felony mistreatment of an animal after he killed a horse with the intention of having sex with it. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail and two years of extended supervision on that charge, as well as six years of probation for taking and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent.

Hathaway pleaded no contest earlier this month to misdemeanor mistreatment of an animal for the incident involving the deer.

"The type of behavior is disturbing," Douglas County Judge Michael Lucci said. "It's disturbing to the public. It's disturbing to the court."

Radical Muslim clerics in media gag

FIVE of the nation's most powerful Islamic clerics, including Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali, have been banned from talking to the media by Muslim leaders for delivering "anti-Australian" messages.
The Lebanese Muslim Association has gagged the imams from Lakemba Mosque in Sydney's southwest from media commentary - especially to Arabic news outlets - because of the "immeasurable damage" they have caused the community.
A letter was yesterday sent by the Lebanese Muslim Association to its five imams, including Sheik Yahya Safi - the official Australian representative to the Mufti of Lebanon - Sheik Shady Suleiman, and Sheik Hilali.

The letter, obtained by The Australian, demands the imams "pause and desist" from talking to any media outlet, in particular Sydney's Arabic community radio station Voice of Islam.

The imams have been told they could lose their positions as spiritual leaders at the nation's largest mosque if they defy the LMA's orders.

LMA president Tom Zreika yesterday told The Australian the letter was issued to end the "perceived un-Australian viewpoints given by some clerics".

"One of the big issues is the double-speak by the various imams," Mr Zreika said, adding that the messages some clerics delivered in Arabic contradicted comments given in English while talking to the mainstream media.

"They go on to the Voice of Islam and talk about something which really isn't in accordance with our views ... as Australians.

"(While) most of our clerics are selected on the basis that they have Australian values and Australian characteristics ... some of them haven't (lived) up to that."

The LMA's hardline approach towards silencing its clerics comes after the furore sparked by Sheik Hilali last year, following revelations in The Australian last month that the mufti was banned from delivering sermons at Lakemba Mosque.

Sheik Hilali caused national and international uproar last October when The Australian uncovered a sermon in which he compared immodestly dressed women to "uncovered meat" and joked about Sydney's infamous gang rapes.

The cleric, who has been the nominal head of the nation's Muslim community for years, further compounded the controversy by subsequently appearing on Egyptian television to dismiss the furore over his insults to women and make disparaging remarks about Australia's convict beginnings.

Mr Zreika yesterday said he no longer wanted the imams to let their political media statements interfere with their primary tasks of being spiritual advisers.

"We want (clerics) to stay apolitical," he said.

"If they're not going to shape up, they're going to be shipped out, because immeasurable damage has been caused to the community as a result of their media commentary and doublespeak."

Mr Zreika - who refused to single out any of the imams who've caused the Muslim community the most damage - said some of the spiritual leaders had destroyed the relationship Islamic people once enjoyed with mainstream Australia.

"Relations have been set back many, many years between the wider community and the Muslim community," he said. "And the reason that's come about is because ... (some) are saying the wrong thing."

Mr Zreika said the LMA needed to lead by example in taking a hardline approach towards clerics putting politics ahead of religion.

"And if we're not going to lead the way in a fashion which is consistent with the needs of the wider Muslim community ... then we're not doing something right," he said.

Sheik Shady yesterday told The Australian that he supported the LMA's decision, saying it was in the best interests of the Muslim and wider community.

Convinced that they will go to heaven if they die killing infidels who Mohammed taught his followers to hate, some Muslims don't bother joining al Qaeda or some other organized band of thugs. They get so filled with hatred from hearing Islamic sermons and visiting jihadi web sites that they decide to become freelance Jihadis.

"Jaron Dansie was inside a Salt Lake City shopping mall when 18-year old Sulejmen Talovic entered the building, pulled a gun and started shooting people at random. As he took shelter inside one of the shops on the first floor, Dansie pulled out his video camera.

“What the… What the hell's going on?” Dansie can be heard saying on the video, in between a barrage of loud gunshots. Dansie, a wedding videographer, said that turning his video camera on was not the first thing on his mind. But his actions led to an intense visual record of the tragic events that happened inside the downtown Trolley Square mall during some of its worst moments.

“I heard [a victim] yelling, ‘Stop, stop, please don't shoot… don't shoot.’ And then heard more shots,” he said. Dansie actually made his way out into the hallway before he started recording, but when he heard gunshots in a shop next door, he ran back.

“When I finally walked past the camera and saw it… I thought, ‘I gotta start filming this,” Dansie said. Startled and panicked, Dansie loaded a tape into his camcorder and got into position – partly hunkered down in the store. Moments later, he says a uniformed Salt Lake City Police officer walked in with his gun drawn. Then, an off-duty police officer, Kenneth Hammond, can be heard identifying himself outside. Dansie, however, wasn't going anywhere.

Seconds later on the tape, Hammond joins the officers to search for the gunman. Then, as both officers see Talovic, Hammond turned and ran for cover. For the next several seconds, shotgun blasts and gunfire from police officers can be heard outside -- followed by silence. Talovic, the gunman, was dead – shot by officers.

In all, the tragedy lasted just six minutes."

In the end it was an off duty police officer, a CPL holder who was able to hold the gunman at bay until the cops showed up in force and put this miserable piece of trash out of his misery. We'll never know what could have happened if more citizens had been carrying a concealed weapon, perhaps the gunman could have been stopped sooner and five innocents, and the wounded could have been spared. Perhaps a factor could be the mall's "NO GUNS" policy, which may have kept more people from exercising their second amendment rights. It's a fact that the criminal sure didn't seem to care about the sign on the mall door. Wake up people, this is exactly why we need more people out there with the ability to protect themselves and others. As it was, the punk was able to walk virtually unopposed through the mall shooting people. I for one refuse to be a victim, a sheep, depending on the shepard's to protect me.

SB 5197 Hearing
...better late than never!

Before I begin, here is a link to a video of the hearing and here you can download an MP3 of the hearing, courtesy of the state of Washington. During the hearing, I was seated on the third row, far right (my right) side. Below is a summary of what transpired. Forgive me if I missed something, I can only write so fast.

I was fortunate to get a ride to the hearing with Dr. Michael S. Brown of Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws and one other. We left Vancouver at 11am and arrived at the capitol around 12:30pm. My first stop was the cafeteria to answer natures call and while there I also picked up one of those attractive "no on 5197" buttons from GOAL. After a brief stop at the sundial to get my bearings, I ventured off to find my Senator and Legislators. Seeing as how none of them were in their offices, I gave up and went back to the sundial. I should point out that I have emailed all of them and urged them to vote against SB 5197 and HB 1026 respectively. About 1:15pm or so, a man I later learned was Ray Carter (founder of Cease Fear aka Pink Pistols) advised that if we found a seat earlier on during a prior hearing, we could have a good seat for the hearing we were there for. So I joined him in hearing room 4 in the second row where I learned a lot about prisons, recidivism and juvenile offender programs, all courtesy of the Ways and Means Committee. Luckily for me, my Senator, Joseph Zarelli was in attendance, but after the hearing was over, he seemed to vanish into thin air.

2:24pm - Two anti's sit down to my left. Dr. Michael S. Brown and Ray Carter are sitting to my right.

2:55pm - I went and signed the meeting list in the corridor. The corridor is full and choked with people, most of them wearing the large white button with 5197 crossed out with a red, diagonally lined circle. The hearing room is packed too, and I hear talk of opening another hearing room to handle the large number of people. I understand that 301+ people against 5197 can be verified (probably much higher but they ran out of forms for the con side to sign) and only 74 Ceasefire members were in attendance.

I retake my seat in the hearing room just in time to be evicted so that the first two rows can be cleared to hold panelists who will give testimony before the committee. Dr. Brown gives me his seat on the third row and that is where I spend the remainder of the hearing.

3:32pm - The hearing is called to order. Three bills are heard before 5197, namely 5735, 5230 and 5582. Jennifer Strus, Committee staff member, reads the law to the committee. Senator Janea Holmquist (R) of the 13th LD asks if she and her future husband and future child decide to have a garage sale with ten guns if that would be illeagle or if nine would be okay. No, apparently. There also need to be three people present selling guns.

Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles (D) from the 36th LD admonishs all present to be polite to each other during the hearing. She also tries to justify the bill being heard before the Labor, Commerce, Research and Development Committee instead of the Judiciary Committee because it has to do with "commerce". *sigh* She splits up the testimony into two panels, for and against the bill. She also promises "equal time" no matter how many people showed up on either side.

Senator Clements (R) of the 14th LD says that he will have an open mind and will listen to both sides.

Next, two of the bills sponsers, Senator Rodney Tom (D) of the 48th LD, and Senator Adam Kline (D) of the 37th LD, come forward and claim that the bill isn't a "rights" issue, but a "crime" issue.

The three Senators on the left (Hewitt, Holmquist and Clemments) from their questions seem very pro-gun. Senator Clements (R) of the 14th LD suggests that the effort would be better spent on going after drunk drivers.

Madam Chairwoman states that what is important to her is to place all people who sell guns on the same level. She also claims that 25% - 50% of sellers at gun shows are "unlicensed dealers". I seriously doubt she has ever been to a gun show in her life.

4:09pm - The first "anti-rights" panel consists of Senator Ginny Burdick of Oregon, Bob Ricker of the fake gun group "American Hunters and Shooters", Garen Wintemute and Warren Appleton.

Senator Ginny Burdick (D) 18th LD in Oregon, led a campaign for a similar bill in Oregon. She says that it's not about guns or rights or taking away guns, it's about "crime". After she couldn't get her bill to pass in the legislature, she got it on the ballot where it passed, thanks to a large liberal contingent in the Metro-Portland, OR area.

Bob Ricker, who once worked for the NRA before he turned traitor, says that not all gun owners think like the NRA. He claims that since there are aproximately 80 million gun owners and only 4.5 million belong to the NRA, that this is proof of this. He repeats what madam chairwoman said about 25% - 50% of dealers at gun shows being unlicensed. Claims that a 2000 study shows that gun shows are a major conduit for illeagle gun "trafficing".

Garren Wintemute basically repeats the same things that Bob Ricker said.

Warren Appleton, head of the ER department at Evergreen Hospital says that he treats gun shot wounds everyday. He then plays the sympathy card and talks about the impact of "gun violence" on both the victim and the shooter. What this has to do with closing the "gunshow loophole" I'm not clear on.

Questions: Senator Karen Keiser of the 33rd LD asks if a .50 rifle can shoot down a civilian airliner. The anti's seem to agree that it is possible. One of them comments that he has a concern about "AR15's" being cut down to "pistol" size.

Madam chairwoman asks if there is concern that Oregon criminals might come to Washington gun shows now to buy guns to take back to Oregon and commit crimes with them. Ginny Burdick says that there is no data, but that they "undoubtedly" do.

4:25pm - Pro gun rights panel is up.

NRA rep Brian Judy comes out swinging and states outright that there is no "gunshow loophole" and that the bill is but the first step leading to confiscation. He says that this bill is actually about restricting private transfers. He points out that in California similar laws have lead to registration and then confiscation. The chairwoman interupts him several times during his testimony.

Ed Owens of the Hunters Heritage Council says that this bill expands the states authority. I also states that his organizations funds come from sales and auctions of firearms and that this bill would basically put them out of buisness.

Dr. Michael S. Brown points out that the Doctors are ill equiped to interpret and make gun laws. He also takes the time to refute three anti-gun studies.

Dave Workman, Senior Editor of Gun Week, assures the comittee that no .50 rifle can bring down a civillian airliner.

Senator Karen Keiser asks Brian Judy why the bill will lead to registration. He responds that everytime a gun is sold, the info is sent to the state, which is tantamount to registration.

The question is asked if a 5 day waiting period will stop gun shows. Brian Judy says that there are still gun shows in California, but that the sale of actual firearms ammount to a very small percentage. He also points out the absurdity of a 5 day waiting period at a 2 day gun show.

Madam chairwoman points out that since there are retail stores that sell guns, people will still be able to buy guns.

The question is asked why the Hunters Heritage Council would be put out of buisness.

Ed Owens responds that they aren't currently regulated as a gun show, but that this bill would change that.

Senator Clemments agress and states that he has never seen a criminal at a gunshow or event and says that they would stick out like a sore thumb.

4:46pm - Second anti panel.

Seattle Police Chief, Gil Kerlikowske (I wonder if he ever found his gun?) states that background checks work and it makes sense to level the playing field. He also says that gun shows are supplying guns into Mexico. He claims that law enforcement will not have to be sent to monitor gunshows.

Officer Mike Burris from the Auburn Police Department says that most dealers are licensed and that the impact to all parties involved is minimal. A member of the committee asks if crime guns can be traced to gun shows. Police Chief Kerlikowske says that there are no statistics available to prove that is the case, but that is why we need this legislation. (huh?)

Senator Clemments can't see how law abiding citizens should be further encumbered when there isn't a problem.

Senator Holmquist asks if felons will go to gun shows to get guns instead of getting them from family and friends or stealing them? The police chief says that felons will go to gun shows.

Senator Pam Roach (R) asks Officer Burris if her personally thinks there is a problem. He says that personally, he doesn't think there is, but that this will level the playing field.

Senator Pam Roach gets into an argument with madam chairwoman afterwhich there is much applause from the audience.

Officer Mike Burris closes the panel by stating that he is pro 2nd amemndment, but is not opposed to this bill.

5:06pm - Pro rights panel.

Joe Waldron, President of the Washington Arms Collectors repeats that at his shows there is a criminal background check because the only people allowed to buy guns are members of WAC and they all have a background check done on them. He goes on to say that this bill would make his organization criminally responsible for something he has no control over and that he and his staff will resign if this bill passes. He also states that C&R dealers would have double the paperwork that they do now. He then quotes stats from Project Safe Neighborhoods that show criminals aren't getting their guns from gun shows.

Ray Carter, Founding President of Cease Fear (aka The Pink Pistols) says that as a gay man, his group is subject to a lot of harrassment. He says that this bill amounts to "harrasment" directed at gun owners. He repeats the .7% gun show gun statistic and says that this bill would criminalize gun ranges and members if the wrong number of people at the range decided they wanted to sell or trade guns on the premises. On top of that, he says that this bill will result in significant costs to the state.

Joe Horn, retired LS County Sheriffs Deputy says that Gun shows are not a "comfortable" environment for criminals and that the bill puts undo restrictions on law abiding citizens. He says that the state should enforce existing laws and that criminals will use "any" weapon available to them.

Mike McKinney, retired LA Police Officer and Vietnam Vet, says that NICS checks are not always instant in all cases. He states that Ceasefire wants to ban all guns, just like the tied off barrels of the guns on their "buttons". As madam chairwoman repeatedly tells him that his time is up, he finishes with "Legislation - Registration and Confiscation". These being the three things that historically take place.

Senator Clemments says that he wishes Senator Tom would have come to him before writing the bill, and that he doesn't think the issue has been resolved. He further states that the bill is not crafted will and he can't support it.

Madam Chariwoman appreciates that "WAC" requires background checks, but is concerned that it is only a one time check.

Joe Waldron says that members have to have their ID when at shows. He says that they don't have access to the NICS system to do checks more often on their members.

Madam chairwoman asks how many shows in Washinton that WAC puts on each year. Joe responds that WAC puts on 50% of the shows in state. He then asks if they want to put California style gun laws into Washington when California's crime rate is 2.5 times ours. This draws some murmers of complaint from the Ceasfire crowd. I reminded one of them who was old enough to know better, that the figures are per capita, which eliminates the differences in population between the states.

After this, the hearing pretty much draws to a close and everyone begins to file out.

I arrived home in Camas that evening about 8:30pm.

Yesterday...

I spent a good chunk of my day yesterday in Olympia trying to contact my representitives about this bill, no joy as they were all busy doing something else. I've emailed them about it so it's still good, but I would have appreciated being able to talk to them in person.

After that failed attempt I slipped into the hearing room early to get a good seat. I took notes and some (bad) pictures. I'll be blogging about this State Capitol trip later when I can get it all clearly put down in electrons.

The only thing I would add is that FA weapons aren't illeagle in most states and just require that you get approval of the BATFE and pay $200. FA weapons are very expensive however since the government decided that no NEW weapons could be imported and owned if they were made after a certain date.

Steel Plate Match

Well, I finally was able to take part in a steel plate match, my first, at Clark Rifles and managed to place 3rd out of a field of 20. Not bad if I do say so myself. I shot the match with my Ruger 22/45, what an accurate little gun and a pleasure to shoot! Next month I'll try my luck again. Who knows, I might get 1st place?! I lost earlier on to the 1st place winner this match because I got nervous and forgot the greatest piece of advice I got from the 2nd place winner, "Take your time."

I saw this tonight on TV and it is extremely scary in it's implications. Around 65% - 70% of the average populous would have no problem obeying an authority figure, no matter if they were told to do heinously illegal or immoral things. What's even scarier is if you translate that to the Police force or Military, where they are trained to obey a superior officer without question, and I'll bet the compliance rate would push over 90%.

I have a friend who constantly on his blog asks any Law Enforcement or Military reading, just how far they would go in obeying an illegal or immoral order. I think we have our answer.

Plus, couple that with this video (a big thank you to The Freeholder) produced by the government to show just how effective today's current Military weapons are at penetrating a modern building. There is literally no cover for you if the government wants you bad enough.

If the American Revolution or Civil War were to happen today they would fail. It would be over faster than a JBT could sneeze. The only way they would have a chance of succeeding is if they had the support of a large enough portion of the Military.

Good God, I am really starting to think I need a tinfoil hat now. Seriously, scary stuff, and I mean that sincerely.

Destroying Guns Makes the Baby Jesus Cry

SOUTH PORTLAND, Me. - Kelly DeCambra made her way through a seven-inches-an-hour snowstorm to a dingy Maine State Police garage where, among the brake parts, transmissions and a flat-bed tow truck, she hoped to find a fragment of solace.

It would come in the form of a Ruger .44 Magnum Super Blackhawk revolver, caked with blood and the memory of Ms. DeCambra's son, 21-year-old Lionel St. Hilaire, who was shot to death with it last year.

This makes as much sense to me as melting down a hammer that you clumsily smashed your thumb with. It might make you feel better, but it makes no sense at all. As with all anti-gun propaganda, this fluff piece relies on emotion instead of rational thought. How about crushing and melting down a vehicle whose owner used it to run someone over and kill them? Why not destroy a piece of machinery that someone got caught in and maimed for life or killed?

How about not punishing the tool and punishing the criminal? Wow, what a novel concept. Unless a firearm is possessed "Christine" style, I can see no logical basis for this flagrant destruction.

Negligent Discharge

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL -- A teenager has been hospitalized with facial injuries caused when a bullet he found fired while held in a vice, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office reported Wednesday.

Apparently, this Darwin Award runner up found a .380 bullet beside the road. He then clamped it in a vice and pounded the primer with a screw. In doing this he managed also to shoot himself in the face. The Police and press are calling it an, wait for it, "accidental injury." Accident my ass, he had to go through quite a bit of contortions to get the bullet to fire. This ladies and gentlemen, is no accident. Maybe we'll be lucky next time and he finishs what he started.

The minor residents, i.e. the children, of the aforementioned House, were located in their individual beds and were engaged in nocturnal hallucinations, i.e. dreams, wherein vision of confectionery treats, including, but not limited to, candies, nuts and/or sugar plums, did dance, cavort and otherwise appear in said dreams.

Whereupon the party of the first part (sometimes hereinafter referred to as "I"), being the joint-owner in fee simple of the House with the parts of the second part (hereinafter "Mamma"), and said Mamma had retired for a sustained period of sleep. (At such time, the parties were clad in various forms of headgear, e.g. kerchief and cap.)

Suddenly, and without prior notice or warning, there did occur upon the unimproved real property adjacent and appurtent to said House, i.e. the lawn, a certain disruption of unknown nature, cause and/or circumstance. The party of the first part did immediately rush to a window in the House to investigate the cause of such disturbance.

At that time, the party of the first part did observe, with some degree of wonder and/or disbelief, a miniature sleigh (hereinafter the "Vehicle") being pulled and/or drawn very rapidly through the air by approximately eight (8) reindeer. The driver of the Vehicle appeared to be and in fact was, the previously referenced Claus.

Said Claus was providing specific direction, instruction and guidance to the approximately eight (8) reindeer and specifically identified the animal co-conspirators by name: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder and Blitzen (hereinafter the "Deer"). (Upon information and belief, it is further asserted that an additional co-conspirator named Rudolph may have been involved.)

The party of the first part witnessed Claus, the Vehicle and the Deer intentionally and willfully trespass upon the roofs of several residences located adjacent to and in the vicinity of the House, and noted that the Vehicle was heavily laden with packages, toys and other items of unknown origin or nature. Suddenly, without prior invitation or permission, either express or implied, the Vehicle arrived at the House, and Claus entered said House via the chimney.

Said Claus was clad in a red fur suit, which was partially covered with residue from the chimney, and he carried a large sack containing a portion of the aforementioned packages, toys, and other unknown items. He was smoking what appeared to be tobacco in a small pipe in blatant violation of local ordinances and health regulations.

Claus did not speak, but immediately began to fill the stockings of the minor children, which hung adjacent to the chimney, with toys and other small gifts. Upon completion of such task, Claus touched the side of his nose and flew, rose and/or ascended up the chimney of the House to the roof where the Vehicle and Deer waited and/or served as "lookouts." Claus immediately departed for an unknown destination.

However, prior to the departure of the Vehicle, Deer and Claus from said House, the party of the first part did hear Claus state and/or exclaim: "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!" Or words to that effect.

WTF?

I was expecting it and I wasn't disappointed. The Portland Police just got away with murder. The most that can happen to them now is the city pays a hefty fine to the family of the deceased.

I'm in such a foul mood right now.

My parents didn't say anything, but I don't think they agree with me. They grew up in a time where the government knew best and blind obedience was the norm.

My dad thinks my "obsession" with guns is funny. My mom, who I expected to be the most against me, actually seems interested. I don't expect her to start packing anytime soon though, she is in her 70's after all and I don't see her or my dad's minds changing after this long. I remember as a kid I couldn't even own a cap gun, let alone a BB gun or heaven forbid, a .22. My grand father on my dads side was a cowboy and had guns. He hunted and protected himself and his family on the prairie when he was homesteading. He was also a deputy sheriff at one point and had a Colt revolver. My grandparents on my moms side had shotguns and other firearms at their farm. WTF happened?

I was living with my sister and her family in Redding, CA a few years ago and had a guy force his way into the house late at night with a rifle. If my brother in law hadn't been behind the door as it opened and pinned the guys arms, there is no telling what would have happened to us and their two kids. Later when we moved the couch we found a cartridge with a struck primer. Presently, I have it on good authority that she won't allow a firearm in her house.

Also, a friend of mine is scared of guns and won't even think of going to the range with me to see for themselves what they're all about.

My ex is an anti, a Democrat, and thinks the Million Mom March is a great thing. Just one of the numerous things that drove us apart, that and the screwing other men thing.

Jeff Cooper is Dead

Friends,
At the request of the family it is my sad duty to report the passing of our founder, Jeff Cooper. Jeff died peacefully at home this afternoon while being cared for by his wife Janelle and daughter Lindy.

There will be a private internment at Gunsite by invitation, with a public memorial service at the Whittington Center at a date to be announced.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Spiffing up the Enfield

Here it is with the "new" micrometer rear sight which takes the place of the 300/600 flip sight. I can now aim from 200 to 1,300 yards with this "new" rear sight. Also, the safety parts have been replaced so it now works as designed, instead of slipping into safe spontaneously while the firearm is in use. That was very frustrating.

Here it is with an original sling from WWII. Doesn't it look purdy? :-) All told you're looking at about $75 of upgrades and fixes. This brings my total cost so far to around $246. I've also produced three hundred plus rounds of ammo for it with my reloading equipment I got at the gun show earlier this year.

Last but definately not least we have 100 rounds of .303 British cartridges in stripper clips. Lovely, aren't they? :-)

Colleen Monica Supinski
27, New York, NY

Status: Confirmed Dead.

Colleen Supinski was born August 24, 1974 and died on September 11, 2001. She worked on the 104th floor of the south tower of the World Trade Center at Sandler O'Neill & Partners as an assistant assets trader. At the time of her death she had been working at Sandler O'Neill for two years.

Colleen graduated from Susquehanna University in 1996 with a Marketing major. During her time at Susquehanna, she was a member of the track and cross country teams. Her coach, Dick Hess, describes her as having an upbeat personality.

"I hardly ever saw Colleen down," said Hess. "She loved being here. She loved what she was doing. She was a real team oriented person who was reliable, dependable, and always supportive of her teammates."

According to Hess, Colleen was successful in and out of the classroom.

"She was very focused and bright," said Hess. "She must have come here with a purpose in mind and took advantage of everything the institution had to offer."

Supinski was also a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and was president of sorority standards.

After graduating from Susquehanna, Supinski became a mentor for the Sigmund Weis School of Business as well as a member of the New York Financial Alumni Group.

Before working in the WTC, Supinski worked in the marketing department of Cantor Fitzgerald, which is also in New York City.

She was also a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Manhattan and was chairwoman of "Hoops for Hope," a fundraising program at Cantor Fitzgerald for cancer research.

On September 11th, 2001, Colleen was working as normal when the first plane hit the north tower. She called her mother to let her know that she was okay, and not to worry because it was the other tower that had been hit. "I'm OK," she told her mother. Then something happened and she added, "I've got to go." That was the last thing that Colleen's family ever heard from her.

From his offices only a few blocks away, her brother, Benjamin Supinski saw the first attack and called her to tell her about it. And then just over an hour later he saw her building collapse.

Colleen and Benjamin Supinski weren't only brother and sister, they were each other's inspiration, too. "She would soften me up a little bit, and I would try to harden her up a little," he said.

For a time, the two of them lived only three blocks from each other. They talked every day on the phone and made it a point to get together at least once a week. They shared the same friends. For a time their youngest brother Nathan, 20, talked about joining them in New York as well.

Colleen loved her job and running, but most of all she loved her family.

"I believe that wherever she is, God's taking care of her," Benjamin Supinski said. "She's up there taking care of me, and of the rest of the family."

Bernice Supinski describes her granddaughter as a "petite tiny thing" who is stronger than she looks.

Just two days after the attacks, Colleen's family came to New York and went from hospital to hospital searching for their loved one, hoping against hope for some good news. That good news never came.

Now, five years after those terrible attacks, the memories are still fresh.

I never knew Colleen Supinski, but I wish I had. From everything I have been able to find, and everyone who knew her, she seems like she was a terrific and loving person. My sincere condolences go out to her family and friends.

Like most people, I remember where I was on September 11, 2001. I was in a hospital bed fighting off an infection that threatened to claim my right leg. I remember turning on the TV as I ate breakfast that morning and seeing it unfold on television. At first I thought it was a new movie and special effects, but it soon became clear that it was all too real. I watched in horror as the events of the day unfolded, and I'm not ashamed to say that I cried that day. I learned the true meaning of evil and I have never forgotten.

Every year since then the events of that day continue to echo inside of me and it feels as fresh to me now as it did then. The choices that many were forced to make, all of which had the same outcome.

We will never forget.

Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin dead at 44

I am still in shock over this. I thought it was a joke at first, but now know it to be fact. I watched his show often and will miss him. He did much to introduce many young people to the world of animals and also was a leading advocate for the protection of many animals.

Rest in Peace Steve, you will be sorely missed.

SMLE No4 Mk 1* Range Report

I took my new toy out to the range today. Here's the short story first, it shoots like the dickens! It shoots much better than I at any rate. Using the 300 yd appeture I was able to get a good 4 MOA at 100 yd's by shooting about a foot and a half low. It's official folks, I have a keeper!

I shot just over fifty of my freshly rolled hand loads I made last weekend. This is a reduced power load from Speer #12.

CCI Magnum large Rifle Primer
44 gr H380 ball powder
123 gr Hornady SJSP .310 diameter
...and last but not least, the .303 British brass I got at the last gun show.

Each shot was well under .20 and my handloads worked like a charm. I have to admit to being a little apprehensive when I shot the first one, but it worked fine and so did all the others I shot today.

Next on the list: A micrometer rear sight, fix the flaky safety and buy a sling. Oh yeah, and buy more brass!

Here's a couple of pictures from todays outing! The first one is me and my new toy. I'm holding up one of my handloads for the camera. As you can probably tell, I'm feeling pretty happy at the moment. The second picture is string of ten and the third is a string of twenty. "I've been trying to say this since 9-11 - but you worry me. I wish you
didn't. I wish when I walked down the streets of this country that I
love, that your color and culture still blended with the beautiful
human landscape we enjoy in this country. But you don't blend in
anymore. I notice you, and it worries me. I notice you because I
can't help it anymore. People from your homelands, professing to be
Muslims, have been attacking and killing my fellow citizens and our
friends for more than 20 years now. I don't fully understand their
grievances and hate but I know that nothing can justify the
inhumanity of their attacks.

On September 11, nineteen ARAB-MUSLIMS hijacked four jetliners in my
country. They cut the throats of women in front of children and
brutally stabbed to death others. They took control of those planes
and crashed them into buildings killing thousands of proud fathers,
loving sons, wise grandparents, elegant daughters, best friends,
favorite coaches, fearless public servants, and children's mothers.
The Palestinians Celebrated, The Iraqis were overjoyed as was most of
the Arab world.

So I notice you now. I don't want to be worried. I don't want to be
consumed by the same rage and hate and prejudice that has destroyed
the soul of these terrorists. But I need your help. As a rational
American, trying to protect my country and family in an irrational
and unsafe world, I must know how to tell the difference between you,
and the Arab/Muslim terrorist.

How do I differentiate between the true Arab/Muslim-Americans and the
Arab/Muslims in our communities who are attending our schools,
enjoying our parks, and living in OUR communities under the
protection of OUR constitution, while they plot the next attack that
will slaughter these same good neighbors and children? The events of
September 11th changed the answer. It is not my responsibility to
determine which of you embraces our great country, with ALL of its
religions, with ALL of its different citizens, with all of its
faults. It is time for every Arab/Muslim in this country to determine
it for me.

I want to know, I demand to know, and I have a right to know whether
or not you love America. Do you pledge allegiance to its flag? Do you
proudly display it in front of your house, or on your car?
Do you pray in your many daily prayers that Allah will bless this
nation, that He will protect and prosper it? Or do you pray that
Allah with destroy it in one of your "Jihads"? Are you thankful for
the freedom that only this nation affords? A freedom that was paid
for by the blood of hundreds of thousands of patriots who gave their
lives for this country? Are you willing to preserve this freedom by
paying the ultimate sacrifice? Do you love America? If this is your
commitment, then I need YOU to start letting ME know about it.

Your Muslim leaders in this nation should be flooding the media at
this time with hard facts on your faith, and what hard actions you
are taking as a community and as a religion to protect the United
States of America Please, no more benign overtures of regret for the
death of the innocent because I worry about who you regard as
innocent. No more benign overtures of condemnation for the unprovoked
attacks because I worry about what is unprovoked to you. I am not
interested in any more sympathy...I am only interested in action.
What will you do for America - our great country -- at this time of
crisis, at this time of war?

I want to see Arab-Muslims waving the AMERICAN flag in the streets. I
want to hear you chanting "Allah Bless America ." I want to see young
Arab/Muslim men enlisting in the military. I want to see a commitment
of money, time, and emotion to the victims of this butchering and to
this nation as a whole. The FBI has a list of over 400 people they
want to talk to regarding the WTC attack. Many of these people live
and socialize in Muslim communities. You know them You know where
they are.

Hand them over to us, now! But I have seen little even approaching
this sort of action. Instead I have seen an already closed and
secretive community close even tighter. You have disappeared from the
streets. You have posted armed security guards at your facilities.
You have threatened lawsuits. You have screamed for protection from
reprisals.

The very few Arab/Muslim representatives that HAVE appeared in the
media were defensive and equivocating. They seemed more concerned
with making sure that the United States proves who was responsible
before taking action. They seemed more concerned with protecting
their fellow Muslims from violence directed towards them in the
United States and abroad than they did with supporting our country
and denouncing "leaders" like Khadafi, Hussein, Farrakhan, and
Arafat. If the true teachings of Islam proclaim tolerance and peace
and love for all people then I want chapter and verse from the Koran
and statements from popular Muslim leaders to back it up. What good
is it if the teachings in the Koran are good and pure and true when
your "leaders" are teaching fanatical interpretations, terrorism, and
intolerance?

It matters little how good Islam SHOULD BE if large numbers of the
world's Muslims interpret the teachings of Mohammed incorrectly and
adhere to a degenerative form of the religion. A form that has been
demonstrated to us over and over again. A form whose structure is
built upon a foundation of violence, death, and suicide. A form whose
members are recruited from the prisons around the world. A form whose
members (some as young as five years old) are seen day after day,
week in and week out, year after year, marching in the streets around
the world, burning effigies of our presidents, burning the American
flag, shooting weapons into the air. A form whose members convert
from a peaceful religion, only to take up arms against the great
United States of America, the country of their birth. A form whose
rules are so twisted, that their traveling members refuse to show
their faces at airport security checkpoints, in the name of Islam.

Do you and your fellow Muslims hate us because our women proudly show
their faces in public rather than cover up like a shameful whore? Do
you and your fellow Muslims hate us because we drink wine with
dinner, or celebrate Christmas? Do you and your fellow Muslims hate us
because we have befriended Israel, the ONLY civilized democratic
nation in the entire Middle East?

And if you and your fellow Muslims hate us, then why in the world are
you even here? Are you here to take our money? Are you here to
undermine our peace and stability? Are you here to destroy us? If so,
I want you to leave I want you to go back to your desert sandpit
where women are treated like rats and dogs. I want you to take your
religion, your friends, and your family back to your Islamic
extremists, and STAY THERE! We will NEVER give in to your influence,
your retarded mentality, your twisted, violent, intolerant religion.
We will NEVER allow the attacks of September 11, or any others for
that matter, to take away that which is so precious to us: Our rights
under the greatest constitution in the world. I want to know where
every Arab/ Muslim in this country stands and I think it is my right
and the right of every true citizen of this country to demand it. A
right paid for by the blood of thousands of my brothers and sisters
who died protecting the very constitution that is protecting you and
your family. I am pleading with you to let me know. I want you here
as my brother, my neighbor, my friend, as a fellow American. But
there can be no gray areas or ambivalence regarding your allegiance
and it is up to YOU, to show ME, where YOU stand."
