"The Truth about 'Assault Weapons'"

...from the author:

"This video got me suspended for a week! My Chief couldn't stand the truth.

Don't let the skinny guy with color in his hair fool you. It's me! This video was made in 1989 and intended for viewing by legislators during the controversy caused by the "assault weapon" rhetoric by anti-gun types.

It struck a popular chord, though, and was distributed far and wide by the NRA. I was under orders from my Chief, Joe McNamara, to state a disclaimer whenever making a public statement, on or off duty. I neglected to do that at the beginning of this film, as I thought it was for legislator's eyes only. And Joe was lying in wait. He got me!

I feel very fortunate for the opportunity to participate in this video project, and hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

Leroy"

The only thing I would add is that FA weapons aren't illeagle in most states and just require that you get approval of the BATFE and pay $200. FA weapons are very expensive however since the government decided that no NEW weapons could be imported and owned if they were made after a certain date.

Steel Plate Match

Well, I finally was able to take part in a steel plate match, my first, at Clark Rifles and managed to place 3rd out of a field of 20. Not bad if I do say so myself. I shot the match with my Ruger 22/45, what an accurate little gun and a pleasure to shoot! Next month I'll try my luck again. Who knows, I might get 1st place?! I lost earlier on to the 1st place winner this match because I got nervous and forgot the greatest piece of advice I got from the 2nd place winner, "Take your time."

Up above is a photo of the three winners for January 2007. I am on the left with third, next is Jim Breen in 1st and then David Gix in 2nd.

The Baby Jesus is Crying

Small-arms fire: A police officer lights a bonfire of confiscated rifles at the Lake Tanganyika stadium in Kigoma, Tanzania. Some 2,000 guns were surrendered last year under a program to rid the country of illegal weapons.

...and leave the population defenseless.

Happy John Moses Browning Day!

...or that's what I would say if it were truly a national holiday today. I have started an online petition with the goal of creating a national holiday on JMB's birthday, and putting his likeness on a "First Class" postage stamp.

Please, if you have a moment, could you sign the petition?

Thanks!
Vasily Zaytsev

Captain Vasily Grigoryevich Zaytsev (March 23, 1915–December 15, 1991) was a Soviet sniper during World War II who between November 10 and December 17, 1942 during the Battle of Stalingrad killed 225 soldiers and officers of the Wehrmacht and other Axis armies, including 11 enemy snipers. His military rank at the time was Junior Lieutenant. By the end of the war, Zaytsev had made 242 verified kills, although some argue it might have been as many as 400.

I'm loving that Mosin-Naganty goodness. :-) This reminds me that I still need to get myself a Mosin-Nagant M91/30 Sniper rig. I also highly recommend the movie "Enemy at the Gates". Although fictionalized, it's still a pretty good story about the events in Stalingrad during WWII, and Vasily Zaytsev.

UK Mosques Unmasked

Parts 1, 2 & 3

The Harvard School of Public Health

Jeff Soyer over at Alphecca performs a great fisking of this new "anti-gun" so-called scientific study, which purports to show a link to gun ownership and increase in "gun crime" (sic). Go over and give it a read and be enlightened. It's definately well worth the time!

Thanks to Blognomicon for the link.
Thomas Jefferson had it Right!

"The British ministry have so long hired their gazetteers to repeat and model into every form lies about our being in anarchy, that the world has at length believed them, the English nation has believed them, the ministers themselves have come to believe them, & what is more wonderful, we have believed them ourselves. Yet where does this anarchy exist? Where did it ever exist, except in the single instance of Massachusetts? And can history produce an instance of a rebellion so honourably conducted? I say nothing of it's motives. They were founded in ignorance, not wickedness. God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed. The past which is wrong will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive; if they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. We have had 13 states independant 11 years. There has been one rebellion. That comes to one rebellion in a century & a half for each state. What country before ever existed a century & half without a rebellion? & What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is its natural manure."

-Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to William S. Smith, 1787

The Science of Evil

'Primetime' Re-Creates a Famous Experiment to Understand How Ordinary People Can Perform Unthinkable Acts

I saw this tonight on TV and it is extremely scary in it's implications. Around 65% - 70% of the average populous would have no problem obeying an authority figure, no matter if they were told to do heinously illegal or immoral things. What's even scarier is if you translate that to the Police force or Military, where they are trained to obey a superior officer without question, and I'll bet the compliance rate would push over 90%.

I have a friend who constantly on his blog asks any Law Enforcement or Military reading, just how far they would go in obeying an illegal or immoral order. I think we have our answer.

Plus, couple that with this video (a big thank you to The Freeholder) produced by the government to show just how effective today's current Military weapons are at penetrating a modern building. There is literally no cover for you if the government wants you bad enough.

If the American Revolution or Civil War were to happen today they would fail. It would be over faster than a JBT could sneeze. The only way they would have a chance of succeeding is if they had the support of a large enough portion of the Military.

Good God, I am really starting to think I need a tinfoil hat now. Seriously, scary stuff, and I mean that sincerely.

Que the Anti's in ...3...2..1...

Yet another shooting in a self defense free, unarmed victim zone. For the uninformed, I'm talking about a school. I just know the Brady Bunch will be howling for more gun control laws after this.

Happy reading!

UPDATE!

Boy, that didn't take long. A big THANK YOU! to The War on Guns for the heads up.
How Republican or Democrat am I?

You Are 60% Republican

You aren't a full fledged Republican yet, but it's probably the party that fits you best.
You probably consider yourself an independent Republican. You usually support the party, but you also think for yourself!

You Are 12% Democrat

If you have anything in common with the Democrat party, it's by sheer chance.
You're a staunch conservative, and nothing is going to change that!

So, I wonder what the other 18% of me is...Libertarian? *shrug* It's just for shits and giggles anyway. Have fun!

GUN CONTROL AND THE SECOND AMENDMENT

The real purpose of the second amendment is to protect ourselves from a corrupt government.
Fucking With the Liberals

John Stossel is often times a voice of reason in a sea of knee jerk emotional crap. I just found an essay by him focusing on the myths of gun control. Of course I had to submit it to digg.com. :-)

I've been a member of digg.com almost since it's inception and the amount of liberal bias and "anti" disinformation expressed by the liberal majority on that site never ceases to amaze me. It makes me worry about the future of our country to be honest. If this is the best and the brightest; the future governors of America, we're trully screwed. digg.com should have stuck to the technical news only thing instead of branching out. *sigh* It's progress I guess.

Feel free to come by and digg my submision, and if you feel like it, join in the debate I'm sure will spring up from the anti's. If you're not a member of digg.com, go ahead and join. It's always good to have some sane and rational voices to contribute.
Destroying Guns Makes the Baby Jesus Cry

SOUTH PORTLAND, Me. - Kelly DeCambra made her way through a seven-inches-an-hour snowstorm to a dingy Maine State Police garage where, among the brake parts, transmissions and a flat-bed tow truck, she hoped to find a fragment of solace.

It would come in the form of a Ruger .44 Magnum Super Blackhawk revolver, caked with blood and the memory of Ms. DeCambra's son, 21-year-old Lionel St. Hilaire, who was shot to death with it last year.

This makes as much sense to me as melting down a hammer that you clumsily smashed your thumb with. It might make you feel better, but it makes no sense at all. As with all anti-gun propaganda, this fluff piece relies on emotion instead of rational thought. How about crushing and melting down a vehicle whose owner used it to run someone over and kill them? Why not destroy a piece of machinery that someone got caught in and maimed for life or killed?

How about not punishing the tool and punishing the criminal? Wow, what a novel concept. Unless a firearm is possessed "Christine" style, I can see no logical basis for this flagrant destruction.

*sigh*

Negligent Discharge

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL -- A teenager has been hospitalized with facial injuries caused when a bullet he found fired while held in a vice, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office reported Wednesday.

Apparently, this Darwin Award runner up found a .380 bullet beside the road. He then clamped it in a vice and pounded the primer with a screw. In doing this he managed also to shoot himself in the face. The Police and press are calling it an, wait for it, "accidental injury." Accident my ass, he had to go through quite a bit of contortions to get the bullet to fire. This ladies and gentlemen, is no accident. Maybe we'll be lucky next time and he finishs what he started.

Thanks to mAss Backwards for the story.
